Re: New Antiwave Podcast 超级难说6 - 猪年为何不能说猪?

Chinese vegetarian food may look very healthy but it's actually very oily and full of MSG. They
normally fry (be it deep or shallow fry) the mock-meat before adding other ingredients. :(

China's largest thread binding books appeared at Book Fair

www.chinanews.cn 2005-07-29 15:39:10

300 sets of hand-printed and thread binding "Complete Library in the Four
Branches of Literature," China's largest publication project of thread
binding books ever, were all completed on July 28, 2005, after four years
of efforts. Part of these books will appear in the Cross-strait Book Fair
and will be on display in Xiamen for the first time.

A preview exhibition of the first Cross-strait Book Fair was held in
Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center on July 28, 2005.
In this exhibition, books from Taiwan participated in on-the-spot sales
in the mainland for the first time in 18 years. Industry insiders
predicted that this year Taiwan's book volume entering mainland market
will grow more than 40% over last year.

SMS used to defraud bank customers

www.chinanews.cn 2005-07-22 14:16:54

Chinanews, July 21 - A new style of fraud, using mobile phone SMS
messages to pretend to be bank reconciliation, to cheat people out of
their bank deposits, has surfaced in Zhejiang province and appears to be
spreading outward rapidly. The Public Security Agency of Zhejiang
Province has issued an urgent warning to remind people to raise their
wariness and prevent this type of crime from happening.
"Dear Customer, you have spent XXX Yuan on X month X date in Shanghai's
Trust-Mart, please confirm this amount with the ICBC bank. If there is
any error please call 021-51023052." If you receive such an SMS message
on your mobile phone, please do not believe its authenticity. Recently, a
38-year old Miss Li of Xinqiao Town, Wenzhou received such a message.
Confused, she immediately called the phone number in the SMS message to
explain that she did not make that expenditure in Shanghai and the other
party on the phone immediately gave her two fake phone numbers for the
Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau and the China Unionpay
Administration Bureau and told the victim that her account has been
targeted by a criminal enterprise and requested that she immediately
transfer the money in her account to a safe account. This way, Miss Li's
530,000 Yuan (65,300 USD) vanished.
Similar types of crimes have happened quite a few times. Police said that
this type of fraud was quite new but very harmful to society and could
spread to many other places. Police reminded people to raise their
wariness to prevent such types of crimes from happening.

Taiwan's forex reserves ranks world No3

www.chinanews.cn 2005-07-21 14:36:43

Chinanews, July 20 - Statistics released by Taiwan's Directorate General
of Budget Accounting and Statistics on July 19th indicate that judging
from statistics of foreign exchange reserves excluding gold, at the end
of this June, Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves were 253.615 billion
USD, making the region rank No. 3 in the globe after Japan and Mainland
China. Its foreign exchange reserves can back up 17.3 months of imports,
ranking next to Japan in the world.
According to Taiwan's Central News Agency, based on information from
"International Financial Statistics" by the International Monetary Fund
and from the Central Bank, the Directorate General of Budget Accounting
and Statistics gave a statistical report which reads that in the past
