BEIJING, Oct. 26 - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao left Beijing for Moscow to
attend the Fourth Meeting of Prime Ministers of the Member States of the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wen pays his visit to Russia at the invitation of Mikhail Fradkov, prime
minister of the Russian Federation government.
Wen's entourage includes Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, Minister of Civil
Affairs Li Xueju, Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, Vice-Minister of Public
Security Meng Hongwei, Director of the Premier's Office Qiu Xiaoxiong,
and Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui.
Prime Ministers of countries making up the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization (SCO) will meet in Moscow to discuss broader economic,
scientific, technological and humanitarian cooperation.
"Participants will discuss the expansion of cooperation proceeding from
the decisions adopted at the SCO's July summit in Astana," a source at
the Russian Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday.
"They are also expected to endorse the SCO's budget for 2006 and discuss
some economic issues," the source said.
Representatives of India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan, the four countries
having an observer status in the SCO, will for the first time take part
in the meeting.
The SCO includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and
Uzbekistan.
