Chinanews, Beijing, Nov.28 (By Zeng Liming) - State Council AIDS Working
Committee Office Director and Vice Minister of Health Wang Longde
revealed today that five provinces and regions in mainland China have
reported more than 10,000 HIV infection cases each.
On the video conference about national AIDS prevention and treatment,
Wang pointed out that according to statistics, Yunnan, Henan, Xinjiang,
Guangxi and Guangdong had reported over 10,000 HIV infection cases each
by the end of this September, accounting for 77.2% of China's total
number of HIV carriers. It manifests that China's HIV infection mainly
concentrates in some regions. He stressed that though China's AIDS
situation shows low prevalence on the whole, in certain groups and areas
the infection ratio remains high, with epidemic situation still on the
rise.
Wang also mentioned that by the end of this September, China's confirmed
HIV carriers recorded 135,630, among whom 31,143 were AIDS patients and
7,773 were killed by this disease.
